#2 Private Instruction is Best
When learning how to play a musical instrument, private lessons are preferred over group lessons. Private instruction will allow each student to progress at their own pace and will help to make sure that they don’t miss any part of the lesson. This method also lets the teacher focus on the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student instead of only parts of a large group. Group lesson can be helpful in supplemental lesson areas such at preschool music programs, music theory classes and our rock ensemble program.
#3 Learn in a Professional Teaching Environment
Learning music is not just a matter of having a qualified teacher, but also having an environment that is focused on music education. In a professional school environment, TV., pets, ringing phones, siblings or anything else cannot distract a student. With only a half hour lesson per week, a professional school environment can produce better results since the only focus at that time is learning music. Students in a school environment are also motivated by hearing peers who are at different levels and by being exposed to a variety of musical instruments. In a music school, the lessons are not just a hobby or sideline for teachers but a responsibility, which is taken very seriously. Many retail music stores have music lesson programs in there stores but this can also be a distraction to students because of the high level of foot traffic going in and out of the store, many people at one time trying out new instruments can cause a lot of distracting noise and because it is easy for students to become focused on looking at and purchasing new instruments instead of focusing on their lessons.
